Volkswagen Golf GTI Game Style

We have all had a go at Scalextric and wanted to have a go in the car whizzing round the track trying not to fall off. But unfortunately with the average person being around 5ft 9. We are all a bit bigger than the 3mm that we need to be.

Well now is your chance, ahead of the UK launch of the new Golf GTI on May 22, Volkswagen has constructed a Scalextric track were you can race round and round to your heart's content.

Have a go and see if you can beat my best lap of 31.26?

Best of luck!!

Mercedes BlueZERO E

With the world ever changing and trying to become more green we are seeing more and more hybrids/electric/hydrogen fuel cell cars. Volkswagen have their Bluemotion, Volvo have their DRIVe and Ford have their Econetic. Well Mercedes are joining the que and have started to use their BlueZERO technology.

They have come up with 3 new cars on of which they have just revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. The first car they came up with is the BlueZERO E. This is a 100% Lithiom - Ion battery car that looks like a futuristic A/B - class. The E can go for 124 miles on a single charge.

A British Snow Special ! The best car for the snow!

Like everybody else the country I woke up this morning to find that my car was covered in snow. not only was it covered but it was also deep in the white fluffy stuff. And it got me thinking, which car I thought was best for conditions like these, besides if it snows you want to have fun. So your going to want to have a car that can get you to the top of the hill with the most snow on. This is so you can go down in on ur sleigh.

Now, you probably expecting me to tell you about some huge, polar bear killing american 4x4. But although they have bad snow it doesn't stop their cars from breakig down. I don't necessarily mean that the car wont move but in an american car it is likely that the heater will fail or the lights wont come on. That got me thinking about a ceartain nation that loves all these problems, a nation that always solves them.

Yes, I'm talking about Germany! Ok, so we won 2 world wars but actually we have definately come second to them. Despite our 2 historic victories they are a much better, organised country than us, with very clever cars as well. Their cars tend to be quite expensive but only because they will never cost you anymore to run than they were supposed to. So your not always paying out bills for the broken air-con or the cracked window-wash bottles.

So, I have narrowed it down to Germany, now what do I do? Well, Mercedes are too expensive and they are more into the sporting side of things. BMW's can be pricey as well, they are reliable though. But Volkswagen on the other hand are cheaper than the others, safer than the others and definitely the most reliable. So I have decided that Volkswagen are going to be your best choice.

Now I need to decide which one, well I was thinking about the Touareg because it is definitely one of the best 4x4's you can get today. But just because it is big and it has four wheel drive doesn't mean its best for the snow, this is because its heavy so if you get stuck your not going to be able to push it out of trouble. The golf and Polo are way to small and may slip baddly on ice. So in between a Touareg and a Golf, well I figured it was the Passat. Big enough to fit all your skis in, all the safety stuff the government recomend and your family. Not to mention all of its safety technology which the Germans stuff it with. And it has a 4 star Ncap crash rating which means if you do take a spin (in the wrong way) that your nice and safe. Plus you can get heater seats with it which means you don't need to freeze either.

So lets sum this up, the Passat is Big enough, light enough, safe enough, warm enough and most of all its a Volkswagen which means it will never ever break (unless you got sold a duff one). So, car for the snow is Volkswagen Passat.

Bently GTC

Bently, a company that I am a fan of. Their build their cars with second to none quality and although there is always so much technology, there is never enough to confuse you. Now, you remember the Bently Continental GT right? you know, the car that looked amazing and had a huge engine but had an even huger weight. It was a bit like David and Galiath, except the engine was David and the Body was Galiath. The engine only just about won the battle and got the car moving, somehow anyway.
Well, Bently have decided to make a covertable that looks a bit like the continental. Its called the Bently GTC and it has been given a twin-turbo W12 engine (2 V6's combined). This means that 600 horse powers fly out the back of the exaust meanwhile it is also delivering 500-lb ft of torque. This makes it the most powerful convertable that Bently has ever made. Now, you may be thinking; Bently are trying to make a sports car? Oh come on! you should know better than that. Bently don't do sports and they never will as long as the companies director still has his head screwed on. But despite this they still wanted to make the handling good so they have added low friction dampers, a lower ride height, wider tires and retuned steering. And don't worry about stopping this thing as it has the biggest brakes fitted on a car today. Plus, they wont ware out until the next ice age (don't hold me to that because with the winter we've had I think we might get one) because they are carbon ceramic. Despite trying to go on a diet the car hasn't cut out the cakes yet, but considering that it will still take you to 60 in 4.5 seconds which is phenonminal for a car that fat. Another shocking thing is, if its raining and you don't want the roof down you can go 200 mph. And with those brakes you can afford to go 200mph in the wet, i would go 200mph in the ice with those brakes, not to mention the grip on the new wide tires. You can even have it in 2 new colours but I don't really see the point as Bently will do your car in any colour you want anyway. So thats about it for now but if I get any more info I will let you know.

2009 Nissan GT-R

2009 Nissan GT-R

Inside the car the boot is 315 litres. But adults sitting in the back won't really be to comfortable, but it's fine for little ones or extra luggage which you can't get in to boot. Super car lovers won't be to impressed with the interior though as it's very basic. It seems to me that they have spend more on the exterior than the interior, and it doesn't matter how nice the car is if it's not comfortable, it's not a good car.

It has a powerful V6 engine which delivers 473bhp. It will zoom of from 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds.(fun!) It has excellent four wheel drive and a six speed twin clutch gearbox. As you can imagine from this beautiful beast of a car it has really bad fuel economy.

Pagani Zonda F

This car isn't the prettiest of cars, in fact I would say probably the ugliest of cars. That is weird considering that it is Italian, because as we know they go to the ends of the earth to make things look beautiful but I think I may know what has happened. Although the Italians make their cars fast and good looking there is always something missing. I could never seem to work out what it was but now I think I know. With this Zonda they have concentrated on speed and aerodynamics only, this shows they really do care about speed underneath all of their pointless fashion accessories. It goes like magnet near a very very big fridge. Just to give you an idea of what that is like its 0-60 is 3.6 secs. Yes, it is Italian but they wouldn't have done it without the help of the Germans. There is a volcanic 7.3 ltr V12 underneath it's light carbon fibre body. When I said volcanic I really mean it, if you can get some ear drops for an ear infection before you drive it, I strongly advise it! It's also very good if you find yourself late for the Oscar awards, not only will you get there a lot quicker (top speed 216mph) but you will make all the movie stars look poor comparing the Zonda to all of their cars. At this point I would usually tell you about the 602 Italian horses of power but because the engine is German I can't. I especially like the Jet engine styled exhaust pipes giving off that jet speed look.
All in all It is an immense piece of machinery, just a shame that it's rear end stretches as far as the Grand Canyon. Just because it couldn't top the speed of the Veyron didn't mean it couldn't beat it on the top gear track. But you will need to save up a bit, £ 454,629 is what its going to cost you.

Seat Ibiza

The new Ibiza was designed by the ex head designer of Lamborghini. It's beautiful body works comes at no suprise when you have been designing Lamborghinis.

Inside the car it's fairly spacious but if your a tall adult you may bang your head on the roof in the back seats. It has a big boot, and 5 doors all together. The Ibiza come with ether a 1.2 liter, 1.4 liter or a 1.6 liter engine. (all of which are petrol)

The Ibiza has good steering and gear shift. Easy to drive for the average driver. This car is really designed for busy city roads and not twisty long country roads. All together though the driver is not really very engaged.

This car took part in Euro NCAP crash tests was awarded 5 stars for it's safety (the top mark) There mark was 91% to be exact.

Volkswagen Fox

Volkswagen is the German car manufactour that we all no. There is a new Volkswagen on the block and it's called the Volkswagen Fox. The price of the new Volkswagen Fox is between £7,000 - £8,000.

The fox is a comfortable car with a four-cylinder engine which keeps the noise inside the car to a minimum. The car comes with ether a 1.4 liter engine or a 1.2 liter engine. Both are manufactored in Brazil. The Volkswagen Fox is a easy car to drive as it has good brakes and the steering is weighted well. The car has 3 doors including the boot. (Which I personally don't like as I find getting in and out with more than 2 people iritant) The fox unfornally has a very dull exterer and isn't the most actractive car.

The Volkswagen Fox was launched in South America in 2003. But it has been redesigned for european roads. The interior is quite spacious, will acessable even though having only to doors, (I still don't like the 2 doors) but in the back unlike many 2 door cars the passangers in the back have plenty of leg room. The cars seat fabric qulity is poor and we would expect a lot more from a car of this standad.

Mini Cooper Convertible

Mini Coopers have been a british favourite for many years now. People have always done different things with mini's most people drive them but some use to see how many people they could get in the Mini. (A bit mad if you ask me) But there is a new mini on the block for 2009. It's going to be shown at the Los Angeles motor show. It's the new Mini Cooper Convertible!

This new Mini Cooper will have 118 horse power, a 1.6 liter engine. But don't worry they haven't changed a bit, the car still looks like a Mini, and hopefully drives like one too. It even still has a old fashion speed omitor. The car is expected to go in to production on March 28 2009. We will give you a full review when it comes out.

Mini are going in a different direction, there have made a electric mini, now they have a convertible one. What could be next for the british favourite, maybe a sports car version of the Mini. (now that would be intersting) Can you imagine a Mini going as fast a ferrari.

Electric Mini

Mini has had a record breaking number of sales since it made its come back 5 years ago; it looks as if the people of Britain are falling in love with it again. Mini have come up with all sorts different models some more powerful and expensive than others, they have even come up with the idea of a 4X4 cross over concept but this week at the LA auto show they unleashed there ultimate weapon.......Its name is the MINI E driven and once launched it will change the whole face of Mini and their design ideas. It is a 100% electric and comes with 5,088 AC Propulsion lithium-ion battery cells, sort of like the batteries you would find in a mobile phone. Unfortunately this means that there are only 2 seats and they are in the front. But considering how much space the batteries take up there is still enough room for you to take one suitcase on a weekend away with your other half. When you start the car you have to strain your ears to even hear it start. Silence.............and that doesn't even change when its being driven about. It takes 8 seconds to go from 0-60 and has a full driving range of 150 miles with a top speed of 95 mph. You may think that 95 mph is pretty slow considering the Tesla does 135 mph but because they have shoved so many mobile phone batteries in it ; it weighs a whopping 1,465 Kg. If this had been a bit lighter I'm sure they could have nudged up its top speed a bit. You may be comparing this to the Tesla and wondering why I have written about it and there is one very good reason why. Its acceleration is phenomenal and you certainly feel like you are in a normal petrol car. There is though another draw back and that is that it takes 10 seconds to start the engine. This is because with 400 volts flying about the car has to check that everything is safe before it starts. But hey, I would rather wait 10 seconds then to find 2 minutes later I had been blown up by battery pack in the back. All in all, although it has many draw backs this is a big step for BMW's Mini and this could be the start of the way Mini designs its cars. And I am sure that within the next few years Mini will build on their foundations and create something amazing!

Honda FCX Clarity

For years we have been searching for the car of the future that will hopefully replace the petrol car and help tackle climate change. Many cars have tried like the Gwiz which looks a bit odd to say the least, and there is the Tesla Roadster which is a beauiful car but as Top Gear proved it only runs for around 50 miles before needing 16 hours to charge. There is now a car which drives for ---- There is now are car with zero carbon emissions! The only emission is water. (which as we all no does no damage to the atmosphere) It's the Honda FCX Clarity, which is the electric car of the future. It is like no other electric ar though as instead of having a battery (like the tesla) it has it's own electric generator, which is hydrogen fuel cell. You simply fill the car up with compressed hydrogen which takes about 2-3 minutes. So it's just like filling up your car normally. To make the car work the compressed hydrogen mixes with the oxygen to make electricity. This is a very complex process. This electricy that has been produced drives a motor to make the car work. It does 0-60mph in 9 seconds. It runs for more than 270 miles before needing more hydrogen. They are getting people to test it in California at the moment, and hopefully it will suceed and then honda will spread it all around the world. source: Top Gear (The TV show)

Tesla Roadster

It's clear that within my lifetime oil will definitely run out and all I can think about is what our vehicles of the future are going to look and drive like. All I can imagine are slow, annoying and ugly cars that creep along our roads at a snails pace. Take the G - Wiz cars for example. They make me want to puke when I look at them and I'm sure driving one would be worse. I just can't face the facts that we may only be able to drive a top speed of 40 mph once we run out of oil because that is the G-Wiz's top speed (ouch!). Because I realized how bad these cars were I desperately searched for a car that was electric but gave the performance of a super car and this is what I found......... The Tesla Roadster is an immense piece of machinery and is just about pushing the limits of EV ( electric vehicle) technology with a 0 - 60 mph in just 4 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph it really does make me smile. If Rihanna was a car this is what she would look like. there are virtually no compromises with this car and that isn't even the best bit. This thing can go 220 miles without having to recharge it and when you do need to recharge it, you don't have to wait any longer than 3.5 hours and if you have only covered 100 miles and want to recharge again then it will only take about 2 hours. Unfortunately there is a downside because it does cost $109,000 and if you want to pre order before it comes to showrooms then it will be about another extra $55,000 which is a lot but it goes to prove that one day cars like this will be available for the average person. They are working on a 4/5 seated family car so lets hope that is just as good.
Since this was writen we have found out different infomation, find out tomorrow

VentureOne Q100

I have always wanted a motorbike, I love the thought of being able to do 100mph round a corner and leaning only an inch from the ground but although that is what I always wanted to do, that was the one thing that scared me in the first place. I also didn't like the thought of being open to the air around me and then suddenly getting hit by a huge Landrover. But now the people from Holland have sorted all of that out for me. A small company named Venture wanted to make something that had never been done before. And just like magic they did! They have combined the saftey of a car with the fun of a motorbike. Using the latest hydrolics technology they have made a car that tilts as it goes round corners. Obviously It's not a normal sized car and it does only have 2 seats. The seats in this car are sort of set up the same as they would be on a motorbike except they have backs to them. You also get a pretty cool roof as well with a built in roll cage for extra saftey. It is pretty low to the ground as well so although you may only be doing 50mph you feel like your doing a million. They have made it in 3 differant models and the Q100 (the best one) is available now and so is the plug-in hybrid version. Don't be put off by the Hybrid because it isn't slow. I can do 100mph and still deliver 100mpg. They are making an electric one but I don't think that is available untl 2009. The Q100 however does 0-60 in just 6.8 seconds which is slightly faster than the hybrid and electric. There is a downside and that is that there is no boot space unless you aren't using the back seat. So this will probably apply to commuter that want to have fun on the way to work. Prices for the hybrid will be around £10,000 and for the Q100 £11,000. When the all electric version is ready for sale it will cost approximately £12,000.

The Mercedes E-class 2009 (Fascination)

2009 is now less than a month a way and before we get there I want to do some reviews of what is in store for next year. So the first one I am going to do is the New Mercedes E-class 2009. They say it's a coupe and technically it is but it's the longest coupe I have ever seen. People have argued that it looks much more like an estate and I agree. Anyway, despite what class it's in it sounds like a pretty good car. It looks typically German with it's straight edges but it does have something unique about it. It gives a futuristic feel of how future Mercedes are going to be, with the double front head lights and the bar like tail lights. Mercedes have said it is a car for every purpose but I think they might have over done it a little bit. This car is supposed to be 3 differant things and that is why although it is a coupe it's an estate as well (if that makes sense). I think the reason they called this the fascination is because it is supposed to do everything. There is a slight problem with this and that is they have put so much pressure on the car to deliver outstanding results it's likely to be critized a lot. This car features LED lights and knowing that Audi and BMW are also capable of that they have given the car fibre optic lights as well. It's comming with a 4 cylinder 2.2 liter engine a delivers 201bhp. On the inside nothing but the best, German quality. Within a month of having it everything will probably die (typical mercedes style) but none of that matters for a month. Before that time comes you can enjoy the highest quality leather, wood and aluminuin. After all, those matierials are the holy trinity in a car's interior. They have even paid attention to the trimming of the boot, so makesure you dog is super clean before he/she gets in it. This is also a good car for someone who is a regualr at Ascott every year. Theres a fridge and table designed for picknicking so why pay a trillion pounds to go and sit in the "Gold Circle" when you can sit in your own car. When I get information on the stats I will let you know more, some of you may have seen it if you went to the paris auto show back in october.

Lightninig GT

We have all seen the state of an electric car, haven't we? I was always ceartain that there could never be an electric car that was cool well it turns out I was wrong. Forget the G-wiz, forget the toyota prius plug in and forget NICE cars. Because, although its not affordable the coolness of this car is off the scale (considering it doesn't run on petrol). It's called the Lightning GT and guess which nation owns this car company, Germany? Japan? America? No, all wrong because we do, the UK's first cool electric car. You may be thinking someone has thrown a brick at my head but they haven't. I'm going to stop boring you now by telling you how cool it is and give you the stats:

0-60 in 4.0 seconds
650 bhp (same as the Lamborghini Gallardo)
Limitted to 130mph
12 year life expectancey
10 mins charging
£120,000

So as you can see the results of what Lightning have done are amazing, and it is due to be launched in 2009. I'm so glad we aren't going to be stuck with G-wiz's as out future way of transport. Can you imagine only being able to drive at 40mph and with the choice of your lights or wipers? Ok so its not exactly cheap but I think if they can do that they will be able to make a family car for a much better price. Its not even ugly either, it looks like a proper sports car! It makes me feel good to know we can match the same standards of other fast cars but with out having to worry about petrol.

Renualt Megane

In my eyes I sometimes wonder why renualts are french. They don't seem to resemble anything french except the name. Personally I would say they were an American car company simply because all of their previous models are fat, they all seem to an arse that sticks out as well. They look so ugly and out of the 3 main french car manufacturers renualt is the one I hate the most but I think for once they may have got on my good side.
They have just put the new Renualt megane into production and it seems to be the first of their cars that is quite a looker. If it was a girl I would be all over it! They have combined straight lines with curves making it look a little bit futuristic. Not only that but they have thrown quite a few handy gadgets in as well bit without making it looked all crammed in. It looks fairly plain and simple but underneath that look this car can do so much more! They seem to have pinched most of the interior from the Renualt Laguna with the curvy dash board and the same shaped Sat Nav. There will be 6 choices of a diesel engine but on the plus side 3 of those six produce less than 120g/km C02. There will be petrol engines, one 1.6 and the other 2.0 liters. There will be an A TCe130 engine in the spring of 2009 offering a 1.4 with lower emissions. So it looks good, has a good interior and has a huge variety of engines. You can pick a trim according to whether you want it to be sporty of luxurious. It looks like Renualt could be on the up then!
