Chevrolet, a car company based on straight lines. Like all American car companies they seem to forget that bends in roads exist therefore they are not always the most popular car choices in the world but in the year 2010 I have a feeling that Chevrolet's profits will boom. They are on the up in terms of the future and see the need for change. They have created a car that was revealed at the Geneva Auto show back in July and it seemed to be a big hit with the spectators. We hear news on electric cars all the time and how they are either pushing the boundaries of technology or how crap they are. Well now I think that a sensible option for an electric family car has arrived and here this is it..........
Its name ; they Chevy Volt and it is a new type of hybrid. It doesn't run on just petrol and regenerative breaking. It runs on electric and petrol and has been given the class name, Plug-in Hybrid. You charge it over night in your garage. It will give you enough charge to go 40 miles zero emissions. This may sound pretty poor news compared with some of things I have been telling you about lately but if you think about it work probably isn't going to be that far away and if it is then chances are you probably commute by bus or train. So as you can tell this is ideal for the average day but say if you want to go on holiday ; that is no problem either because it has a tank that will carry you 220 miles with low emissions. and 40 miles can be done in electric only so that equals 260 miles all together making one of the most economical plug-in family cars to ever be made. It's compact and economical enough to do the school run yet it can take you all over the country with the minimum amount of stops. As I'm always saying, our oil isn't going to last for ever and thought this car was kind of pointless but it isn't because you can actually run this in E85 which is a Bio-fuel. They are even considering a fuel cell version. This car opens up lots of alley ways for future fuels whether its electric or liquid based. Unfortunately the Americans get this car first in the year 2010 but we are left aside until 2011 but 3 years isn't all that long and if you don't want to wait 3 years then I'm sure other stuff will be here just as quickly. I did forget to mention that its top speed is only 100 mph but for a family car I think that is pretty good. Just goes to show, the Americans can be good at something other than inventing deep fat fried mars bars.
