Volkswagen Golf LPG

Hot hatches are becoming more and more popular and they seem to be even cooler than some of the top notch sports cars. This is probably because they are cheaper to insure, run and buy. In 1984 a revolution for Hot hatches started, dragging in over 1.5 million customers in the first 18 months. Thats right, the Volkswagen Golf was born and changed the way Hot Hatched would be made for ever.
But now, 24 years later they have launched their new LPG Volkswagen Golf at the Bologna Motor Show this week. When I first heard they were going to do this I thought that it was a bad idea because the LPG could possible damage the performance of the Golf. But at Volkswagen they have decided not to limit you to just LPG. You can also run this thing on petrol as well so you don't have to sacrifice the Golf's Hot Hatch Perfermance if you don't want to. If you run the LPG and the Petrol together at the same time it is said to cut environmental impact by 10%. If you have it in just LPG mode you will get a 260 mile range; emitting just 149kg/km. That may sound high for such a small car but don't forget, this car was built in a time when no one cared about global warming and everyone was happy just to get on with it. If you have it in petrol mode you get a 423 miles. They have also made sure that the Golf is more compatable with LPG, so they have made the tank more durable. Some cars that run on LPG have their fuel stored in a tank designed for petrol so their fuel does not last as long. I'm glad that Volkswagen have been able to do all this stuff to the car without making it rubbish. As soon as you add anything "eco" or "green" the car always ends up crap.
The looks are also pretty much the same. The Golf has always been a good looking car through the years and although there is another fuel tank they haven't had to get rid of any of its features. I definatelty recomend you get one if you're looking for a new Hot Hatch.
